THE STUDIO NOTEBOOK

Give the newsletter a reason to exist

An email plan starts with the subscriber’s reason to read, then works backward to production.

01 / NOTE

Choose a promise you can keep

Decide what the newsletter contributes: useful advice, product knowledge, business news, or another clear purpose. That promise helps choose topics and frequency. Avoid a cadence that the available content and review process cannot support.

02 / NOTE

Build an edition around the reader

Plan a subject, a recognizable layout, and a useful next action. Keep copy connected to the audience and use approved information. Think about mobile reading, links, and what happens when someone follows the call to action.

03 / NOTE

Clarify the sending responsibilities

Confirm who drafts, approves, builds, schedules, and sends. Identify the email platform, sender identity, and list owner. A copy-and-design project is different from an engagement that also manages platform operation.

04 / NOTE

Keep preferences in the workflow

Review how people joined the list and how unsubscribes are handled. Make suppression part of the sending process rather than a separate task someone may forget. Review results with an understanding of the platform and the business goal.
